About Nut Bolt Sort

Nut Bolt Sort is a color sorting puzzle set on a cozy workbench. A cheerful robot with a wrench waits on the left, tool shelves glow under hanging lamps, and in the middle stand a row of bolts with stacked hexagon nuts. Your job is to move the nuts around until every bolt holds one color only. When a bolt is complete, it is capped, and the counter in the corner goes up.

The rules are simple. Tap a bolt to lift its top nut, then tap another bolt to drop it there. A nut can only land on a bolt whose top nut has the same color, or on an empty bolt. Only the top nut of each stack can move, so the order of the nuts matters. Sometimes you have to park a nut somewhere for a moment so the one below it can get free.

This is what sets Nut Bolt Sort apart from games where you unscrew bolts from a board. Here nothing comes off the board and nothing gets removed. You are stacking and sorting, like a hardware version of a ball sort puzzle. The thinking is about order: which nut must move first, which bolt should stay empty, and how to finish one color without blocking another.

The first level, called First Turn, teaches the idea with three red nuts on one bolt and one red nut on the other. A hand shows you which bolt to tap first, and a short message tells you what happens next. The panel on the right shows the workbench name, the level name, and how many bolts are capped out of the total. A How to play button is always there if you want the rules again.

As you move on, the game unlocks helpers. The bar under the bench shows four locked tools: Undo at level 3, Hint at level 5, a Spare Bolt at level 8, and Rust Spray at level 10. Undo takes back a move you regret, Hint points at a useful move, and a Spare Bolt gives you one more place to park nuts when a puzzle gets tight. There is also a restart button at the top left if you want a clean start.

A good habit is to look at the whole bench before the first tap. Count how many nuts of each color there are, find the bolts that are almost done, and keep at least one bolt empty for as long as you can. An empty bolt is the most useful space on the bench, because any nut can go there.

Nut Bolt Sort runs in the browser on desktop and mobile, with no download. It suits short breaks, since each level is a small, clear puzzle, and the workbench style with its friendly robot keeps the mood relaxed.

Nut Bolt Sort FAQ

How is Nut Bolt Sort different from a bolt unscrewing puzzle?

Nothing is removed from the board. You move colored nuts between bolts and stack them by color, so the challenge is about the order of the nuts, not about freeing parts.

When is a bolt capped?

A bolt is capped when it holds a full stack of nuts in one color. The panel on the right counts capped bolts, for example 0/1 on the first level.

Can I put a nut on any bolt?

Only on a bolt whose top nut has the same color, or on an empty bolt.

What do the locked icons under the bench do?

They are helpers that unlock as you progress: Undo at level 3, Hint at level 5, Spare Bolt at level 8 and Rust Spray at level 10.
