About Upside Solitaire

Upside Solitaire flips the familiar card game on its head. Instead of starting the foundations with an Ace and climbing to the King, each of the four foundation piles begins with a King and has to be built down, one rank at a time, until it reaches the Ace.

The theme is a clockmaker's workshop. Each foundation is drawn as a dial, and the first level, Mainspring, sums up the goal in one line: wind every dial down to the Ace. Brass and gears frame the table.

Below the dials are seven tableau columns, dealt with face-down cards under a face-up top card, and a stock pile you can draw from when you are stuck. Counters at the top show your moves, the time and your score.

Further levels open at 2, 4, 7 and 11, each a new setting of the clockwork table. Cards move by tapping or by dragging, so it plays the same on a phone as with a mouse on a desktop.

Tips for Upside Solitaire

  • Remember the reversal: a foundation showing a 9 wants an 8 next, not a 10.
  • Turn over face-down tableau cards early; they often hide the next rank a dial needs.
  • Use the stock pile when no tableau move helps, but watch the move counter.
