About Lantern Mahjong

Lantern Mahjong is a relaxed pairs puzzle set beside a quiet pond, with a red paper lantern, a pink lotus and a koi fish drifting along the edge of the screen. The idea is the classic one from mahjong solitaire: find two tiles with the same picture and match them to take them off the board. Clear every tile and the level is done.

The tiles are cream-colored blocks with clear, friendly pictures: dragonflies, red-capped mushrooms, ladybugs, little bonsai trees and more. Some tiles sit under others. A tile is free when nothing covers it, and only free tiles can be picked up. Covered tiles look dimmer, which makes it easy to see at a glance which moves you can make right now.

This is a pairs game, not a three-in-a-row game. You never need three of a kind, and there is no tray that can fill up. Every match is just two tiles, so each move is a small, satisfying decision: which pair should go first so that the tiles underneath open up in a useful way?

The first level, First Pond, is a gentle start with only a handful of tiles. It is a good place to learn how covered tiles work before the boards grow taller. A star bar at the top shows how well the level is going, and the garden score on the left keeps a running total as you play.

In the top corner a small counter shows a helper you can use four times. When you feel stuck, it can get you moving again, but the stars reward clean play, so it is worth looking over the board first. A row of locked level badges at the bottom shows where new stages open, at levels 3, 5, 8 and 11.

Planning is the heart of every mahjong-style game. If two matching tiles are both free, it is tempting to take them at once. Often, though, the smarter move is to clear the pair that frees a buried tile first, because that tile might be the partner you need later. Thinking one step ahead is what turns a stuck board into a clear one.

The pond setting keeps the mood calm. There is no timer pushing you on the first levels, so you can study the stack, try an idea and enjoy the quiet scene. It is a nice game for a short break, and the clear pictures make it easy for younger players to follow too.

If you enjoy tile puzzles that reward patience more than speed, this is a good place to settle in. Each new level adds a few more layers to think through.
