About Chess Jam
Chess Jam is a free chess puzzle game that runs in your browser on desktop or mobile, with nothing to install. Capture every black piece on a small chessboard before your moves run out. The game calls itself rogue chess, and the difference from an ordinary chess puzzle shows on the first board: after each of your moves the black pieces take a step of their own, so a pawn that was out of reach can walk straight into range.
The first level is a 4 × 5 board with three white pawns, two black pawns and seven moves. Before you start, a card explains the pawn: one square forward, captures one square diagonally forward, and a pawn that reaches the far row promotes to any piece you like.
Clearing the board ends the level with a score breakdown: points for the clear, for every move you didn't use, for finishing without losing a piece, and for matching the level's par. Our first clear took three moves against a par of three and earned three stars and 157 coins.
An undo button with three uses is there from the start, and five more helper slots unlock at levels 4, 8, 12, 20 and 30. A Fortune Wheel opens at level 5 and a Treasure Hunt at level 15.
Every move is two taps, one on your piece and one on its target square, so it plays the same with a finger or a mouse.
How to play Chess Jam
Capture every black piece before your moves run out. Clearing the board at par earns a Perfect bonus.

- Watch where the black pieces will step next: a pawn that advances can walk into your capture range.
- Aim for par: the bonuses for unused moves, a flawless clear and a perfect finish add up to more than the clear itself.
Chess Jam FAQ
What does par mean in Chess Jam?
Each level has a par move count. Clearing the board in that many moves adds a Perfect bonus on top of the points for the clear and for your unused moves.
Does Chess Jam save my progress?
Yes, in the same browser. When we closed and reopened the game, it continued at the next level with the coins already earned.
Can I play Chess Jam on my phone?
Yes. The board fits the screen upright or sideways, and each move is two taps, one on your piece and one on its target square.
